About John Griffin

John Griffin was born and educated in England but now lives and works in France.

On leaving Grammar School he attended Southampton College of  Art where he fell under the influence of tutors James Sellars and John Leferve, who instilled the passion of the ‘English Pastoral Landscape’ into his work.

After qualifying he went into education and taught ceramics for some few years, but eventually left teaching to set up his own painting studio.

He works in most media, watercolour, oil or pastel but has a preference for egg tempera on paper.

Essentially an ‘English Pastoral’ painter he admires the tradition from Palmer, Blake, Constable, Sutherland and Nash and is set on continuing this aspect of his work today.. John has exhibited in London, Winchester and several galleries in France including recently a retrospective at the S.C.A. (now Southampton Solent University).

John mixes his own egg tempora.
